Condition of Hasan Bitmez, who suffered a heart attack in the Turkish Parliament, remains critical

The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) was in the midst of its budget marathon when Saadet Party Kocaeli Deputy Hasan Bitmez suddenly fell ill while speaking at the podium. Bitmez, who collapsed to the floor, remains in critical condition.

The TBMM budget marathon is ongoing. In Parliament, parties are taking the podium in turn to express their views on the 2024 budget.

Saadet Party Kocaeli Deputy Hasan Bitmez, who was speaking on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs budget, suddenly became ill at the end of his speech.

While Bitmez's health condition remains critical, Mahir Kılıç from Habertürk and Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca provided information regarding the deputy's latest status.

Kılıç said, "He hit his head hard. İYİ Party Balıkesir Deputy Turan Çömez noticed that his heart had stopped. After interventions, his heart was restarted. The parliamentary medical team entered and an ambulance was notified. The deputy is expected to be taken for an angiogram. His main artery is blocked and they will try to open it; his condition remains critical."

Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca stated the following on his social media account:

"Saadet Party Kocaeli Deputy Mr. Hasan Bitmez fell ill during his speech at the TBMM General Assembly; he was intervened by the General Assembly Medical Team and CPR was initiated. Our deputy, who was intubated and brought to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital, was immediately taken for an angiogram. After the angiogram, he was placed on a heart-lung pump and taken to intensive care. I wish him a speedy recovery."
