Controversial remarks from AKP's Mehmet Metiner: 'DEM must be liquidated, an Öcalanist party should be established'

DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları said in Diyarbakır, “We want to address the state mind from here. This meeting that took place in İmralı is not enough; the doors of İmralı must be opened, and the physical conditions must be provided for Öcalan to work for peace, not just for peace in Turkey but for peace in the entire Middle East.” 

Hatimoğulları’s words have also been at the center of debates on the political agenda.

Former AKP MP Mehmet Metiner, who reacted to Hatimoğulları’s statements, used very harsh expressions.

"REMNANTS OF ASSAD"

Metiner’s post included the following statements:

"As long as remnants of Assad are in a position to speak on behalf of the DEM Party, in other words, as long as remnants of Assad at every level are not purged from DEM, there is no chance for the İmralı process to succeed. I am of the opinion that DEM is the only party that will infect the İmralı process in its current state and with its representative position. Before the PKK, Öcalan should dissolve DEM and urgently establish a new party in its place. Otherwise, DEM, under the control of Assad's remnants, will first bury Öcalan in İmralı."

Mehmet Metiner continued as follows:

"This is a complete saboteur…

If DEM thinks this way, there is no need for it to be the carrier apparatus for the İmralı talks.

DEM’s representation is problematic.

If the İmralı process is to be conducted with this mindset, it is a waste of time.

Because this language is not the language of a solution, it is a language that sabotages the solution…"

CALL FOR AN ÖCALANIST PARTY 

In the continuation of his statement, Metiner used expressions that will be highly debated. Metiner said that DEM should be liquidated and an Öcalanist party should be established in its place.
