ALL EYES ON SUNDAY, APRIL 6
The 21st Extraordinary Convention of the CHP will convene on Sunday, April 6, at the Yenimahalle Municipality Nazım Hikmet Culture Center with the slogan "The will belongs to the nation."
The CHP has 1,323 registered convention delegates. At the convention, the delegates will hold elections for the Chairman, as well as 60 Party Assembly (PM) members and 15 High Disciplinary Board (YDK) members.
5 PERCENT OF DELEGATES' SIGNATURES REQUIRED FOR CHAIRMANSHIP
To be a candidate for Chairman in the CHP, at least 5 percent of the total number of delegate members must submit a written application to the Council Presidency. The Chairman is elected by the convention through a secret ballot and by an absolute majority of the total number of members. If no result is obtained in the first two rounds of voting, the candidate who receives the most votes in the third round is elected. To be a candidate for membership in the PM, which is the most authoritative body after the convention, a requirement of 10 delegates' signatures is sought.
In the CHP Party Charter, the phrase "The rule in elections is the open list system" is included for the election of PM and YDK members; however, it is also possible to hold elections using the block list method upon the written proposal of 1/10 of the total number of convention members before moving on to the agenda item of the work report and discussions.
The block list includes the number of principal and substitute PM and YDK candidates to be elected, as presented by the chairmanship candidates. According to the charter, compliance with gender and youth quotas is required in this list.
Preparations for the convention to be held at the Nazım Hikmet Culture Center are also ongoing. While sound, lighting, and stage organization work continues, necessary preparations are also being made for the transportation and accommodation of the delegates.
It has been announced that no spectators will be admitted to the CHP's 21st Extraordinary Convention due to the physical conditions of the hall.
Work areas for members of the press are planned to be created in the foyer area at the convention.
