Court of Cassation sends name change notice to Yeni Parti: Yenilik Partisi's application proves effective

It has been reported that the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation has sent a notice to Yeni Parti to change its name following an application by Yenilik Partisi.
According to journalist İsmail Saymaz, the notice was delivered to Yeni Parti today.
It was stated that the process began following a complaint filed by Yenilik Partisi, led by Chairman Öztürk Yılmaz, on the grounds of name similarity.
In its application to the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Yenilik Partisi argued that the similarity between the terms "Yeni" (New) and "Yenilik" (Innovation) could lead to confusion between the two parties.
The application requested that the name of Yeni Parti be changed.
It was reported that the application was made under the signature of Oya Baksı Işık, Head of Legal and Election Affairs and Deputy Chairperson of Yenilik Partisi.
The notice shared by Saymaz also recalled that an attempt was made to establish a political party under the name "Yeni" in 2024, and that this request was rejected following an application made by Yenilik Partisi at that time.
According to the official political party registry of the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Yenilik Partisi was founded on July 20, 2020, while Yeni Parti, led by Chairman Özgür Özel, was founded on July 24, 2026. Both parties are listed separately in the Court of Cassation's list of active political parties.
Following the establishment of Yeni Parti, the debate over name similarity had come to the agenda, and it had previously been reported in the press that Yenilik Partisi Chairman Öztürk Yılmaz had filed an objection with the Court of Cassation.
