Critical meeting in Silivri: CHP leader Özgür Özel to visit Ekrem İmamoğlu

Following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, CHP leader Özgür Özel is set to visit him at Silivri Prison. The CHP leader has arrived in Silivri. A CHP delegation also visited İmamoğlu for the first time yesterday.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was arrested and sent to Silivri Prison on March 23. On the same day, the detention of İmamoğlu, who was elected as the CHP's presidential candidate with 15 million votes, sparked major protests in many cities across Turkey, particularly in Istanbul.

During the protests, police used tear gas and rubber bullets in harsh interventions to disperse demonstrators. As the protests continue, İmamoğlu has entered his second day of detention at Silivri Prison.

Today, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel went to Silivri Prison. Özel will meet with IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held in Silivri. Özel had announced on his social media accounts that he would visit İmamoğlu. A CHP delegation had already carried out the first prison visit to İmamoğlu yesterday.

FIRST MESSAGE CAME FROM GÖKHAN GÜNAYDIN

CHP Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın visited Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held in Silivri. Providing an update on İmamoğlu's current situation, Günaydın relayed messages from him.

Starting his remarks with the unlawful process directed at İmamoğlu, Günaydın stated, "I am having trouble even counting what has happened to Ekrem İmamoğlu in two months. The answer the nation will give to all of this is very important. The will expressed by the nation determined its presidential candidate on Sunday."

Finally, relaying the messages from İmamoğlu, Günaydın asked citizens to go to Saraçhane only with Turkish flags.

Gökhan Günaydın also conveyed greetings from Ekrem İmamoğlu to the citizens.

CHP IS INITIATING APPEAL PROCESSES

CHP Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın announced that they will carry out the necessary appeal processes this week against the cancellation of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma by Istanbul University.
