Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş visited the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) today as part of his party visits conducted before the proposal known as the 10th Judicial Package, which includes new enforcement regulations, comes to the General Assembly agenda.
The focus of the contacts of Kurtulmuş, who met with DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, is the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on the Execution of Penal and Security Measures and Certain Other Laws.
REACTION TO THE PACKAGE FROM HATİMOĞULLARI
The notable background of the meeting is known to be the criticisms rising from the DEM Party front. DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları had targeted the 10th Judicial Package with harsh words in her speech at her party's provincial congress held in Urfa yesterday.
Stating, "Unfortunately, almost nothing we demanded as the DEM Party has been included in this draft law," Hatimoğulları had criticized the government's judicial reform rhetoric. She also gave a striking message with the words, "No one will offer us peace on a silver platter; peace will only be achieved through our organized struggle."
