Criticism from Ali Mahir Başarır towards Mehmet Şimşek in the Turkish Parliament

The General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey convened with the agenda of electing members to the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK). During the meeting, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır voiced his allegations regarding Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek.

Başarır stated, "22 bureaucrats from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality were detained in a dawn operation. Yesterday, an important document emerged. It turns out that Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek established a company and acquired an apartment in England with the Ekpet company. Our IMM Mayor is in prison."

On one side, there is the country's Finance Minister, and it turns out he has had a long-standing partnership with a businessman who received 11 billion in new tenders from this state, and photos of them in private jets have surfaced. Yet, there is no investigation into Mehmet Şimşek. Is there a photo of Ekrem İmamoğlu in a private jet with the owner of the companies involved in the alleged tender? No. Is there a partnership? No. So why is Ekrem İmamoğlu in prison, while Mehmet Şimşek is still managing the money?"

During Başarır's speech, representatives from other political parties also shared their views on various issues.

New Way Group Chairman Selçuk Özdağ emphasized that a separate ministry should be established for the disabled, while IYI Party Group Deputy Chairman Buğra Kavuncu criticized the PKK's dissolution statement. Kavuncu questioned whether the state's security units had seen this text.

DEM Party Group Deputy Chairman Sezai Temelli, referring to Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş's visit to Gabar, stated that fossil fuels harm nature. Temelli said, "Society's expectations for peace, justice, and bread continue. In other words, there is poverty, injustice, and a longing for peace. The door to peace has been opened. There are steps to be taken for this."

At the end of his speech, Başarır said, "Since 2010, there have been ministers who received watches as gifts, ministers who sold detergent to their own companies, and ministers who were partners with companies that received 11 billion in tenders from the state, yet not a single minister is being tried. But our mayors are in prison. Being in the opposition party is like wearing a shirt of fire."
