AK Party Deputy Chairman Hüseyin Yayman visited the memorial tomb of the TRNC's Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş in Nicosia, where he was attending ceremonies marking the 52nd anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, Yayman stated that the federation model in the Cyprus issue has lost its validity, referencing President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's words that "the federation chapter is closed."

"IT IS NOW TIME FOR A TWO-STATE SOLUTION"

Yayman said, "It is now time for a two-state solution. The Turkish Cypriot people have nowhere left to go in negotiations. Both the reaction of the Greek side to the Annan Plan and the results that emerged from the talks in Crans-Montana have demonstrated this."

Criticizing the Greek side's statements regarding the Turkish soldiers on the island, Yayman argued that the presence of the Turkish army in Cyprus is a guarantee for both the Turkish Cypriot people and the Greek people. Yayman stated, "For 52 years, the Republic of Türkiye has always been on the side of brotherhood, peace, and harmony."

Reminding that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to visit the island at the end of the month, Yayman said he believes Guterres will be welcomed in the best possible way by the TRNC President and the Turkish Cypriot people.

Emphasizing that the Cyprus cause is the cause of the Turkish nation, Yayman said, "We are celebrating the TRNC's July 20 Peace and Freedom Day. We once again commemorate the late Rauf Denktaş, the great leader who founded the last Turkish state, with mercy and respect."

Yayman was accompanied during the visit by Orhan Erdem, Chairman of the Türkiye-TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Deputy Chairman Şamil Ayrım, and AK Party TRNC Representative Emre Kaya.

Orhan Erdem, for his part, commemorated those who contributed to ensuring the guarantee status regarding Cyprus and the establishment process of the TRNC, saying, "The TRNC is a state founded under very difficult conditions." Erdem stated that Türkiye and the TRNC continue their will to move forward together, adding that after water, electricity and natural gas will also be brought to the island.
