Davutoğlu reacts to CHP: Would you have been able to reach 37 percent?

Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu has expressed support for the 'political softening' statements made by President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan. Addressing criticisms from the CHP regarding the lower-than-expected vote shares, Davutoğlu responded, 'If it weren't for the softening created by that table, would you have been able to reach 37 percent?'

Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu delivered the closing speech at his party's 'Extended Consultation Camp' today.

Noting that they support the statement by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that “a period of political softening has begun,” Davutoğlu said, “We view this as a historic statement and we support it. However, it needs to be filled with substance.”

Davutoğlu also posed the following question to Erdoğan: “Is this political softening a tactical maneuver, or is it a strategic decision for transformation that will determine Turkey's future?”

'IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE SOFTENING CREATED BY THAT TABLE...'

Responding to criticisms, particularly from the Republican People's Party (CHP) wing, regarding the vote shares that remained well below expectations in the last presidential and parliamentary elections, Davutoğlu stated the following:

I ask those who hold us accountable by saying ‘You took this many deputies from us,’ despite seeing that we paid a price for continuing all these efforts: If it weren't for the softening created by that table, would you have been able to reach 37 percent? The rates may change, but the only thing that will not change is the fact that politicians who act with principles will one day take their rightful place in the conscience of the public.
