Death penalty call from junior coalition partner: He pointed to 2 options
BBP Chairman Mustafa Destici drew attention to the rising number of murders of women and children, emphasizing that the majority of perpetrators have criminal records. Destici stated that to prevent similar crimes, "life imprisonment without parole" and the "death penalty" must be reintroduced into the laws.

Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici met with members of the press.
Stating that justice is not being served in incidents in Turkey that end in death and that punishments are not sufficiently deterrent, Destici explained the following:
- "When you look at it now, unfortunately, we see that the sentences given in incidents in Turkey that end in death neither establish justice nor are they sufficient in terms of deterrence.
- Let's give a few recent examples. A man killed his two children, two others were injured and barely saved their lives, and he served 16 years and was released. Most recently, in the incident in Sivas, two innocent children were brutally murdered due to a feud with their father. He has many criminal records, he has a history.
- Again, we experienced all of these just last week. In Istanbul, a man wants to forcibly take back his ex-wife. The woman resists because she knows what will happen to her and is murdered in the middle of the street. He also has a long list of criminal records.
- Now we can multiply these examples. Narin died and the matter has still not been clarified. Baby Sıla, I mean we can give many more examples of these events. Therefore, there are measures we need to take both before and after to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
- Sentences should be reviewed, and life imprisonment without parole must absolutely, definitely be included in our penal codes first and foremost.
- In other words, a monster who kills two of his children, injures two others, and would have killed them too if he had escaped, should never be able to get out of prison again. Or those who commit such atrocities against baby Sıla, or those who murdered our daughter Narin, or those who killed two innocent youths as in the Sivas incident, should never be able to get out again.
- They get out; the statistics are clear: two-thirds of those who enter and leave prison like this commit crimes again. It costs another life. Therefore, sentences must be reviewed here.
- Life imprisonment without parole must definitely be introduced, and as we have stated before, the death penalty should be brought back for two crimes.
- One is for the monsters who kill our children and women after abusing them at such a young age, and the second is for the terrorists who martyr our soldiers, police, and teachers by firing the bullet or detonating the bomb themselves; the death penalty should be brought back for these two crimes."
