Debt statement from Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu!

Debts remaining from the previous term at Tunceli Municipality, which passed from the TKP to the DEM Party in the March 31 Local Elections, have been announced.

DEM Party co-mayors Cevdet Konak and Birsen Orhan stated that the municipality's debt from the previous term was 230 million 673 thousand liras.

Former mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu (TKP) issued a statement following reports that he had taken over Tunceli Municipality with a debt of 67 million TL and handed it over with a debt of 230 million TL.

Speaking to TELE1, Maçoğlu said, “Even though we took and used five years of revenue in advance, and despite keeping transportation at the 1-2 lira level, providing water for free, and selling bread for 4 lira, we have reduced the debt to half of what it would normally be, which is twice our budget.”

Stating that there was a debt of around 13 million dollars when they took over the municipality in 2019, Maçoğlu expressed that there is now a debt of around 7 million dollars. 

Maçoğlu said, “It is very natural to have debt. Because the municipality's debt is far behind its expenses. For example, the municipality's Iller Bank shares and other expenses have now increased by one thousand to one thousand 500 percent. In other words, there is really no possibility for municipalities to carry on this way, but despite this, we have reduced our debts.”

“WE INCREASED WORKER SALARIES BY ONE THOUSAND 500 PERCENT”

Stating that the price of water was increased from 1 lira to 2 lira by the people's assembly, Maçoğlu continued as follows:

“Because expenses are high. Let's say transportation was 1 lira 25 kuruş, the public made it 2.5 lira. And we provide free transportation in three or four neighborhoods. At the same time, while workers were receiving salaries around 1,750 lira, it is now 25,000 lira. In other words, we have increased worker salaries by one thousand 500 percent. Even if we did nothing, even if we didn't build a meter of road, there would still be debt like this. Because our revenues were barely covering the salaries, and in some months they didn't cover them at all. We built roads through sponsorships by meeting with business people in Germany, France, Europe, and Turkey. Despite that, we finished the natural gas project, which was supposed to take six years, in three years. I did not go into debt by taking out loans for the other part. I did not go into debt by taking money or buying something. The reason for this debt is a matter of normal, natural operations.”
