Decision on Seydi Ahmet Keleş, who stabbed YENİ Party's Melih Meriç!

Seydi Ahmet Keleş, who was arrested on charges of stabbing YENİ Party MP Melih Meriç in Gaziantep, has been permanently expelled from his party.

The incident occurred on August 18 in the Akkent neighborhood of Gaziantep. A dispute broke out between YENİ Party Gaziantep MP Melih Meriç and Seydi Ahmet Keleş, who had recently joined the YENİ Party after resigning from his position as the CHP Oğuzeli District Chair and from his party. The dispute escalated into a fight, during which Meriç was wounded with a knife.

Upon notification, police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Meriç, who received initial treatment on-site, was taken to Gaziantep City Hospital. It was reported that Meriç, who suffered damage to his intestines due to the stab wound, underwent surgery.

As part of the investigation, Seydi Ahmet Keleş and his son Hakan Keleş were arrested. A.Ç., E.D., and private security guard R.Ç. were released under judicial control conditions. It was reported that Keleş is being held in custody on charges of "attempted intentional homicide."

Melih Meriç, whose health condition is reported to be improving following the surgery, was transferred to Istanbul via an air ambulance affiliated with the Ministry of Health at the request of his family. It was stated that Meriç's treatment is continuing at Koç University Hospital.

In a written statement, the YENİ Party Gaziantep Provincial Presidency stated that the process regarding Seydi Ahmet Keleş was evaluated during the provincial board meeting. The statement said, "As a result of the evaluations, the Provincial Board of Directors has decided on the permanent expulsion of Seydi Ahmet Keleş from the YENİ Party."

It was noted that the decision was made within the framework of the party charter, fundamental principles, and the understanding of institutional responsibility.
