DEM Party MP Meral Danış Beştaş: 'No crimes are being committed in any of our municipalities, no mayor is guilty'

DEM Party Erzurum MP Meral Danış Beştaş held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). In the press conference she held, Beştaş argued that the government is "creating a perception on every platform that the trustee practice is a legal necessity and that they are forced to do so."
'NO CRIMES ARE BEING COMMITTED IN ANY OF OUR MUNICIPALITIES'
Arguing that these practices are not correct, Beştaş stated, "Currently, no crimes are being committed in any of our municipalities, including our Hakkari Municipality where a trustee has been appointed; no mayor is guilty, and no fair or impartial judicial or investigative process is being conducted against any co-mayor. There is a management of perception suggesting, 'If mayors commit crimes, we are obliged to appoint a trustee. The law and the Constitution mandate this.' We are facing a judicial decision directed by instructions regarding our Hakkari Co-Mayor. A trustee was appointed 5 days before the judiciary even made a decision."
Beştaş claimed that "trustee practices have no basis in any law, constitution, or international convention," and added, "We will not bow our heads to those who usurp our will. Immediately revoke your decision to appoint a trustee."
