DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, in her speech at the Urfa Provincial Congress, called on the government to abandon the trustee mentality. Condemning the operations conducted against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and reacting to the arrests, Hatimoğulları stated, "We never accept these. We condemn these pressures."
Yesterday, the fifth wave of operations targeting the IMM took place. 34 people were detained, including former CHP MP Aykut Erdoğdu, Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar, Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, and Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün.
DEM Party Co-Chair Hatimoğulları reacted sharply to these operations as well as the appointment of trustees. Addressing the government, Hatimoğulları said, "Those who want to make peace must immediately abandon the trustee mentality. The trustees appointed today should be withdrawn, and our municipal co-chairs should be reinstated to their duties. This would be a very important development. The operations that take place at dawn every morning must end as soon as possible. The urban consensus operation, the operations against the IMM, and most recently the arrest of the Seyhan and Ceyhan mayors in Adana. We never accept these. We condemn these pressures."
Giving a message to party members that "we are not going through a period where we can be complacent thinking peace is coming anyway," Hatimoğulları also criticized the 10th Judicial Package that passed through the commission. Stating, "Unfortunately, almost nothing we demanded as the DEM Party has been included in this draft law!" Hatimoğulları delivered the message, "No one will present peace to us on a silver platter; peace will only be achieved through our organized struggle."
