The DEM Party has issued a statement regarding the detention of journalists Timur Soykan and Murat Ağırel.

"JOURNALISM IS NOT A CRIME"

The following was noted in the post made on the party's social media account regarding the detentions:

"Unfortunately, Turkey woke up this morning to another dawn operation targeting journalists. The detention of journalists Timur Soykan and Murat Ağırel is a clear intervention against the press, freedom of expression, and the right to receive information. Journalism is not a crime. The attempt to suppress critical thought with the stick of the judiciary is absolutely unacceptable. Turkey must rid itself of this shame. Journalists must be able to perform their duties freely and without facing pressure."
