DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan made statements at her party's headquarters following a Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting. In recent days, claims had surfaced that the DEM Party would change its name and logo. Doğan addressed these claims.
Providing an explanation regarding the renewal process, Doğan emphasized that no decision has been made regarding the name and logo. Using the phrase, "We are talking about a renewal. There are no decisions made regarding these issues," Doğan noted that all these questions and potential changes will be addressed during party conferences. Furthermore, she stated that the public should not rely on media reports until this process is completed.
Doğan said, "We are evaluating all of these at the conferences. It is not possible to provide an answer regarding either our name or our logo without discussing these questions at the conferences."
It was stated that the public expectation regarding the DEM Party's internal renewal and change process will become clear following these discussions.
BAHÇELİ'S STATUS PROPOSAL FOR ÖCALAN
Regarding the status proposed by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli for Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Doğan said the following:
"From the very beginning, we have identified and shared the following with the public: Establishing a democratic interlocutor framework that has gained official status, meaning one framed by legal guarantees, is of critical importance. For us, it is of critical importance to create conditions where Mr. Öcalan, who is the main actor, can evaluate his legal status and his role as the main actor, both for the construction of peace and for the opening of the democratic political space."
Arguing that the ongoing process is uncertain and difficult, Doğan said that as the DEM Party, they will make efforts to overcome these difficulties. Furthermore, pointing out that the delay in the ongoing work has increased some concerns, Doğan said, "Despite all this, this process is very valuable. The approach should be this way as well."
