DEM Party to support CHP candidates in 20 districts! Here are those districts...

According to a statement made by the DEM Party yesterday, candidates were nominated in 17 of Istanbul's 39 districts.

Sözcü columnist İsmail Saymaz wrote about the tension at the Istanbul Provincial Election Board and the DEM Party's decision regarding the 20 districts where it did not field candidates.

Saymaz stated the following in the relevant section of his article:

"EVEN IF IT WAS PAST 5 PM..."

"The DEM Party submitted its Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality co-mayoral candidate applications to the Provincial Election Board the other day with only minutes to spare.

According to the document provided to the DEM Party by the Provincial Election Board, the documents were submitted at 4:55 PM. The processing was completed at 5:14 PM.

If the DEM Party fielding a candidate had been against the AK Party's interests, this five-minute time difference would have been used as an excuse not to accept the documents. However, since the DEM Party fielding a candidate was in the AK Party's favor, the delay was not made an issue. If you ask me, the documents could have been accepted even if it was past 5 PM. I called a high-level DEM Party official and asked the reason for the delay. They gave me the following answer:

“Our colleague who was delivering the documents first submitted the district candidate files to the district boards. They left the metropolitan candidate files for last. Because of this, they got stuck in traffic. They lost their way while going to the courthouse. They got into a verbal altercation with the staff at the courthouse. The attitude of the officials was also interesting. There was a dispute due to the time difference.”

CHP TO BE SUPPORTED IN 20 DISTRICTS

Due to the delay, the DEM Party was also unable to submit the Bağcılar documents on time. The DEM Party will support CHP candidates by not fielding candidates in 20 districts.

These districts are as follows:

Ataşehir, Avcılar, Bahçelievler, Bayrampaşa, Beyoğlu, Çatalca, Çekmeköy, Eyüp, Fatih, Kartal, Maltepe, Pendik, Sancaktepe, Sarıyer, Silivri, Şile, Şişli, Tuzla, Üsküdar, and Zeytinburnu.

The DEM Party did nominate a candidate in Esenyurt. However, they may withdraw this candidate in the coming days."
