Former HDP deputy Altan Tan evaluated the political process and alliances in Turkey. Tan made significant remarks regarding the new process, which the government has dubbed "Terror-Free Turkey."
Tan stated that if this process succeeds, the DEM Party will offer its support to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He expressed that the DEM Party would provide the necessary votes for the 360-vote threshold required for Erdoğan to run for office again and would support Erdoğan directly or indirectly in an early election.
"ALLIANCES ARE CHANGING"
Recalling the 2019 letter from Abdullah Öcalan advising against voting for the CHP, Altan Tan noted that in the 2023 elections, Kılıçdaroğlu received electoral support for the CHP in regions such as Diyarbakır, Şişli, and Kadıköy. Emphasizing that current alliances are beginning to shift, Tan said, "In 2019, Selahattin Demirtaş said to pressure the CHP, but now alliances are changing. The CHP, DEM, TİP, the Kurdish Left, and Kemalists had previously united around the CHP. Now, the structure of this alliance has changed."
"DEM PARTY WILL VOTE FOR ERDOĞAN"
Altan Tan noted that Erdoğan needs to secure 360 votes in Parliament to be able to run again in the 2023-related process. Tan said, "If this process is successful, the DEM Party will support Erdoğan so that he can run again.
This could happen both indirectly and directly," he said. Tan stated that while the DEM Party would use cautious and careful language to provide support, they would definitely not support the CHP. "If this process works, the DEM Party will not support the CHP. I am placing a caveat on this matter," he stated.
"IF THE PROCESS IS SUCCESSFUL, THE DEM PARTY WILL SUPPORT ERDOĞAN"
Altan Tan said, "If this process progresses successfully, which Erdoğan has also indicated, the AK Party, MHP, and DEM Party will carry out this process together." Tan emphasized that time is needed for everything to become clearer and that it is difficult to make a definitive prediction on this matter. However, Tan stated that if the process reaches success, the DEM Party will support Erdoğan, and this support will even manifest itself in the elections.
