It was stated that the meeting between the terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan and the DEM Party delegation has concluded.
DEM PARTY TO MAKE A STATEMENT
In a post on its social media account, the DEM Party stated that it would make statements regarding the meeting between Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder and the PKK terrorist organization leader Öcalan in Imralı.
HOW DID THE PROCESS DEVELOP?
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, who shook hands with DEM Party deputies at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), said in a statement at his party's parliamentary group meeting: "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the DEM Party Group Meeting in the TBMM, and let him declare that terrorism has completely ended and the organization has been disbanded. If he shows this resolve and determination, the path should be wide open for legal regulations regarding the use of the 'right to hope' and for him to benefit from it," calling for Öcalan to speak in Parliament.
Shortly after this statement, Bahçeli called for the DEM Party delegation to be granted permission to go to Imralı.
On November 26, the DEM Party applied to the Ministry of Justice to hold a meeting with the terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı.
On December 9, during budget negotiations in the TBMM, Bahçeli applauded DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan following his speech calling for a new beginning.
In his speech, Bakırhan said, "In 2025, in the 103rd year of the Republic, we can make a new beginning. This Parliament has the chance to undertake the founding of a Democratic Republic. Let the honor of creating a country where 85 million people feel they belong belong to this Parliament."
On December 27, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that a positive response had been given to the DEM Party's request for a meeting.
