Demirtaş offers conditional support for Bahçeli's Öcalan call: 'If you want to talk to me about a solution...'

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's handshake with DEM Party deputies and his subsequent call for terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan to "speak in the Turkish Grand National Assembly and benefit from the right to hope" continues to remain on the agenda.

While the repercussions of Bahçeli's statements continue, a statement has also come from former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is being held in Edirne F-Type Prison.

Lawyers Sıdkı Zilan and Mahmud Koyuncu held a meeting with Selahattin Demirtaş on November 17.

Speaking to Muhammed Emin Demir from Rudaw about the visit, lawyer Sıdkı Zilan stated that they had a meeting with Demirtaş lasting approximately 2 hours, and that they discussed current political developments and the process initiated by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call.

Zilan conveyed that Demirtaş stated that neither the state nor the AKP has held direct talks with him regarding the new solution process.

"I WILL NOT TALK IN PRISON"

Lawyer Sıdkı Zilan stated that Demirtaş is ready to take a role in the peace process, and that he told him the following on this matter:

“I am ready to support the process. I have also told some lawyers who came to visit me. As long as I am in prison, I will not talk to you about the Kurdish issue. I am a prisoner. If you want to talk to me about a solution, first release me, and let's discuss this issue at the prison gate.”

According to what Sıdkı Zilan conveyed, regarding the talks with Qandil, Demirtaş said: “The reconciliation of the state and the PKK does not ensure the resolution of the problem. All segments of society must be included in the process. If the process does not proceed in this way, social peace cannot be achieved. A solution is achieved by making the Kurds partners in the state.”
