Deniz Gezmiş's brother Bora Gezmiş joins YENİ Party

It has been announced that Bora Gezmiş, the brother of Deniz Gezmiş, has joined the YENİ Party, with his party badge pinned by Ümraniye District Chair Metin Demirbilek.

Bora Gezmiş, the brother of Deniz Gezmiş, has become a member of the YENİ Party. The membership was announced by YENİ Party Ümraniye District Chair Metin Demirbilek in a post on his social media account.

Demirbilek also shared photos of the moment Bora Gezmiş was presented with his party badge. The post stated that the badge was pinned on him following the membership process.

“We have presented the party badge to Mr. Bora Gezmiş, the brother of Deniz Gezmiş, one of the leading figures of the '68 generation who shouldered the struggle for a 'Fully Independent Turkey' at a young age, following his membership in the YENİ Party. I welcome Mr. Bora Gezmiş to our YENİ Party family and wish his membership to be auspicious.”

WHO IS DENİZ GEZMİŞ?

Deniz Gezmiş is among the iconic figures of the 1968 generation in Turkey. In 1970, he took part in the founding of the People's Liberation Army of Turkey (THKO) in Ankara alongside Sinan Cemgil and Hüseyin İnan.

Following the March 12, 1971 memorandum, Deniz Gezmiş and Yusuf Aslan were captured in the Gemerek district of Sivas, while Hüseyin İnan was captured in Kayseri. Gezmiş, Aslan, and İnan were tried at the Ankara No. 1 Martial Law Military Court.

As a result of the trial, the three individuals were sentenced to death in accordance with Article 146 of the Turkish Penal Code of the time.
