Deniz Yağan, the elected mayor of Kayseri's Pınarbaşı district where the election was annulled, speaks to 12punto

In the Pınarbaşı district of Kayseri, the District Election Board decided to annul the election following an objection by the MHP, after unofficial results showed CHP's Deniz Yağan had won by a margin of 324 votes.

CHP's elected Mayor of Kayseri Pınarbaşı, Deniz Yağan, made the following statements regarding the process to 12punto columnist Şenol Çarık:

"We have come to the Provincial Election Board. Together with our party's Deputy Chairmen, our Member of Parliament, our Provincial Chairman, and our party officials, we have submitted our petition objecting to the decision to annul the election.

We emphasized that this election cannot be annulled based on the official records.

The Provincial Election Board will make a decision today before the end of business hours. We will act according to the decision that is reached."

Pointing to the attitude and pressure exerted by MHP Member of Parliament Baki Ersoy toward the judge, Yağan stated, "It is clear that there were no irregularities. They had filed objections regarding 14 ballot boxes. These boxes were opened one by one. The count was conducted under the supervision of officials, party representatives, and lawyers. The election result did not change. They signed the records and they were entered into the system. However, the decision to annul the election was later made as a result of pressure."

Deniz Yağan added that as an elected mayor, he should currently be in office at the municipality.
