Dervişoğlu's first reaction to the IMM indictment

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu answered journalists' questions following his party's TBMM Group Meeting. Evaluating the indictment prepared within the scope of the investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Dervişoğlu stated that the file had only just been released, saying, "It is not possible to comment on a 3,900-page indictment without examining it. Our legal experts are currently working on it."

Recalling that he had previously criticized the way the investigation was being conducted, Dervişoğlu said, "This process bears the characteristics of a politicized investigation. Looking from the outside, it is clear that it has a political aspect. A conviction to this effect has also formed in the public eye."

"It looks like an indictment targeting the CHP"

Dervişoğlu pointed out that the political dimension of the investigation also targets the CHP. "There will also be accusations against the Republican People's Party on one side of this indictment. Therefore, it gives the impression of an effort to put the CHP in the crosshairs," he said.

Stating that the process needs to be examined in detail, Dervişoğlu said, "I do not want to comment with superficial information yet. We will share our assessment with the public once the examination is complete."

"Politically motivated trials have turned into a public conviction"

Expressing that a strong conviction has formed in Turkey that some investigations are being conducted for political purposes, Dervişoğlu said, "The feeling arises that some trials are being conducted in line with the wishes of certain people. This is turning into a prevailing conviction in society."

"The closure of the CHP could be brought to the agenda"

Touching upon the discussions regarding the closure of the CHP and recalling that similar attempts have occurred in the past, Dervişoğlu said, "This can be done. Of course, that is also in the back of their minds. The Republican People's Party has just emerged from a nullity crisis. Therefore, it may be natural for them to want it to be dragged into a new crisis."

Warning against initiatives that would harm democracy, Dervişoğlu said, "There is a conviction in Turkey that rights, law, and justice are being trampled upon. Democracy cannot withstand this. If we are thinking about the future of this country together, we must analyze well at what point democracy will be harmed."

Prosecutor's Office statement on "closure claim"

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office responded with a written statement to the claims that the closure of the Republican People's Party was requested in the indictment.

The statement emphasized that reports in some media outlets claiming that "the closure of the CHP was requested" were entirely "intended for disinformation."

The following statements were included in the Prosecutor's Office statement:

"Our relevant letter consists solely of notifying the Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the financial irregularities detected within the scope of the investigation, as required by law. The reports claiming that the closure of the CHP was requested do not reflect the truth. The public should not give credence to such publications."
