Dervişoğlu reacts to the residence debate in İmralı: What you are doing is against the law

İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu answered questions from İlker Karagöz on NOW TV. Evaluating the current agenda, Dervişoğlu reacted sharply to allegations that a residence or compound had been allocated for Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı.

Stating that the sentence of a person convicted of aggravated life imprisonment must be served under prison conditions, Dervişoğlu said, "Whether you call it a residence, a villa, or a compound, under what conditions is this baby killer, known as Abdullah Öcalan, serving his sentence?"

Drawing attention to the legal dimension of the debate, the İYİ Party leader said, "If you have chosen an area other than a prison for such a person to serve their sentence under the name of a residence, villa, or compound, you must first accept that what you are doing is against the law and is a crime. There must be a price for this."

CRITICISM OF BAHÇELİ

Stating that he does not find it appropriate for MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli to take on a role in this matter, Dervişoğlu argued that the authority that should make a statement regarding the allegations is the Ministry of Justice. Dervişoğlu said, "I do not find it appropriate or meaningful for Mr. Bahçeli to have taken on a role in such matters."

Claiming that Bahçeli is "seeking status" for Öcalan, Dervişoğlu also said that the congratulatory message he sent for the August 30 Victory Day was returned by the MHP leader via courier. He stated, "Bahçeli, who shows such sensitivity regarding the Öcalan issue, sent my August 30 congratulatory message back via courier."

Touching on economic topics during the program, Dervişoğlu stated that the increase in fuel prices is straining citizens. Pointing to the tax burden on diesel, Dervişoğlu said that fuel price hikes affect not only transportation costs but also the prices of production and basic necessities.

Criticizing the statements of Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek regarding economic management, Dervişoğlu expressed that the high inflation in Turkey cannot be explained solely by regional developments. Stating that "the real issue in Turkey is a lack of planning," Dervişoğlu argued that the government has failed to meet its economic targets.

Addressing the debate on audits regarding transactions on the stock exchange, Dervişoğlu stated that small investors are suffering and that the responsibilities of the Capital Markets Board and relevant regulatory institutions should be investigated. Dervişoğlu said that it must be revealed who benefits from the lack of oversight.

Responding to a question about early elections and the potential candidacy of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Dervişoğlu stated that the timing of an early election decision could create a legitimacy debate. He argued that a decision made very shortly before an election would mean "circumventing the Constitution."
