A response from the İmamoğlu family has come regarding the assessment made by former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu about the imprisoned Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Ekrem İmamoğlu.

In an interview with Euronews, Kılıçdaroğlu had stated about İmamoğlu, "He is not a political prisoner, he is not a person who has been put inside because of his political views." These words sparked a new controversy in the public eye at a time when debates within the CHP are ongoing.

Dilek Kaya İmamoğlu, in a post on her social media account, stated that her husband has been deprived of his freedom for 18 months and reacted to Kılıçdaroğlu's statements.

My dear husband Ekrem İmamoğlu, the father of my 14-year-old daughter and two sons, has been deprived of his freedom as a political hostage for exactly 18 months. I leave those who, despite seeing and knowing this truth, try to distort the reality by chasing dirty games, and furthermore, have the audacity to appear before society and speak untruths, to God.

In the same interview, Kılıçdaroğlu argued that the discussions regarding İmamoğlu's presidential candidacy and the judicial processes should be evaluated separately. He said, "We cannot just stand up and declare someone a presidential candidate and then call this a political case because of that. After all, I am the one who went and voted [for his candidacy]. The presidential candidacy is separate, these cases are separate."
