Diyarbakır industrialists react sharply to retiring Governor: 'We Leave You to God'

Diyarbakır Governor Ali İhsan Su has retired due to age limits with a farewell message. The Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry responded to Su's farewell message with the statement, 'Mr. Governor, we do not grant you our blessing.'

Diyarbakır Governor Ali İhsan Su, who had been serving in the city since May 18, 2022, and has retired due to age limits, said farewell today with a message shared on his social media account. In his farewell message, Su stated the following:

'I have felt great satisfaction and honor in serving in the ancient city of Diyarbakır, where life has continued uninterrupted for 12,500 years and which has hosted 33 different civilizations, and in serving you, our esteemed people.

Throughout our tenure, we have strived together to move Diyarbakır further forward in every field. During this time, I bid farewell with my deepest gratitude, love, and respect to our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who never withheld his support, our Minister of Interior Mr. Ali Yerlikaya and all our esteemed ministers, our esteemed deputies, the valuable members of our military and judicial organizations, our university, the very valuable administrators and personnel of our public institutions and organizations, our deputy governors, our district governors, our security forces, our neighborhood heads (muhtars), our professional chambers and non-governmental organizations, our press members, and all my fellow citizens of Diyarbakır. May you be entrusted to God.'

 

"MR. GOVERNOR, WE DO NOT GRANT YOU OUR BLESSING"

The Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry responded to Governor Su's message with a statement published under the heading, 'Mr. Governor, we do not grant you our blessing.' In the statement, the following criticisms were directed at Governor Su:

'Because you arbitrarily blocked the land allocation for the project to relocate the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Small Industrial Sites (KSS) outside the city, which we had agreed upon with the previous Provincial Governor, and prevented the relocation of the Industrial Sites outside the city,

Because you blocked the distribution of the lands of the Karacadağ Organized Industrial Zone, for which the title deed was obtained with great effort in 2021, and hindered the investors who were going to come to our province,

Because you tried to close the Gastro Innovation Center, which was allocated to the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which has received the most Geographical Indication Registrations in Turkey and to which our Minister Mehdi Eker and the previous Provincial Governor contributed, because you did not start the Light Rail System Project, which would largely eliminate our province's traffic problem, even though the Ministry had allocated funds,

Because you prevented the construction of a new fair center in Diyarbakır, which is the center of Turkey and the region regarding fairs,

Because you turned a blind eye to the fact that only 5 percent of the Logistics Village Center Project, which was initiated in cooperation with non-governmental organizations, was completed even though it should have been finished by the end of 2024,

Because you blocked the Small Industrial Sites we wanted to establish in our districts,

Because you set up the tent city on the banks of the Tigris River despite repeated warnings from professional chambers in the city after the earthquake, and wasted national resources by dismantling it at the first rain,

Because you transferred the Organized Industrial Zone shares belonging to the Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality to YİKOB, preventing industrialists from receiving services from the municipality,

Because you did not support our province's distinguished team Amedspor, and you cut the support that the disabled team and the youth infrastructure received from the municipality, and prevented Amedspor from accessing support,

Because you did not do what the Governorship and the Metropolitan Municipality needed to do for the development of the city, apart from these obstructions, we do not grant you our blessing, we leave you to God.'
