Amnesty proposal from Doğu Perinçek: 'Let Öcalan benefit from the amnesty, why would you let him rot in prison?'

The reconciliation process, which began with MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call to terrorist leader Öcalan on October 22, continued on February 27 with the call from PKK terrorist organization leader Öcalan to lay down arms and dissolve the organization.

On July 11, a group of 30 PKK members, including the so-called KCK official Bese Hozat, symbolically destroyed their weapons in the city of Sulaymaniyah in the KRG.

While eyes are turned toward the decisions to be made and legal regulations to be drafted by the commission to be established in parliament, politicians are also making consecutive statements regarding the process.

DOĞU PERİNÇEK: AN AMNESTY LAW IS NECESSARY

Most recently, Vatan Party Chairman Doğu Perinçek's proposal for an amnesty law for PKK terrorists and his statements that Abdullah Öcalan should also benefit from this amnesty have drawn attention.

In a broadcast he attended, Perinçek said, "An amnesty law aimed at the integration of PKK terrorist organization members who lay down their arms with the state and society is necessary."

"ARE YOU GOING TO LET THEM ROT IN PRISON?"

Perinçek detailed his proposal with the following expressions: "Trial is a dead end. If they are innocent, there is no such thing as amnesty. We are pardoning them because they are guilty. The PKK has demonstrated a will, dissolved the organization, and said, 'I am laying down the arms.' Let's say there are 10-15 thousand armed elements of the PKK. What will you do when they lay down their arms, are you going to let them rot in prison? That would be a huge mistake. Aren't these our citizens?"

"WE REQUESTED A MEETING WITH ÖCALAN"

Furthermore, it was noted that Perinçek announced they had requested a meeting with Öcalan in Imralı on the day Sırrı Süreyya Önder visited him.

"ÖCALAN SHOULD ALSO BENEFIT FROM THE AMNESTY"

Emphasizing that no names were included in the amnesty law proposal, Perinçek said, "Öcalan should also benefit from the amnesty," and added, "The leaders of the PKK, its affiliated elements, the KCK, its members, and elements involved in PKK actions should benefit from the amnesty. It cannot be that 'I pardon this one, but I don't pardon that one.'"

When asked, "Will we see Abdullah Öcalan in Parliament?" Perinçek replied, "That depends on the decision of the citizens. Öcalan is playing the most positive role in this process."

"WHY WOULD YOU LET ÖCALAN ROT IN PRISON?"

Perinçek continued his remarks regarding Öcalan as follows:

"You brought them to the parliamentary podium. What is the difference between the DEM Party members and Abdullah Öcalan? While DEM deputies are there, why would you let Abdullah Öcalan rot in prison? Isn't there an inconsistency here? The Turkish nation is not an ordinary nation. It will understand and support this process very well."
