Efkan Ala speaks on the current call for disarmament: 'Turkey must rid itself of these shackles'

AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala answered questions from Mehmet Akif Ersoy during a live broadcast on Habertürk. Making statements regarding the meeting between the DEM Party delegation and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ala said that they are aiming for a "Turkey without terrorism" at the end of the process.

Stating that "Turkey must rid itself of these shackles," Ala said, "The current environment is conducive to such predictions. In other words, it is predictable that this call for disarmament will be made, and we are also expecting this."

"I AM IN A STATE OF CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM"

Regarding whether a call for disarmament will be made, Ala said, "Politics does not just wait for something; it works to make what is expected happen. We are not just on the side of those who wait." Pointing out that the process involves many actors, Ala added, "There are foreign countries, intelligence agencies, and regional developments. When we take all of these into account, Turkey has achieved significant successes despite difficult conditions. We can achieve this as well."

"WE DO NOT GOVERN TURKEY THROUGH SPECULATION"

Speaking about new members joining the party during the AKP Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) meeting, Ala reacted to claims that "the AKP is trying to reach 360 [seats] in the Turkish Grand National Assembly," saying, "We do not govern Turkey through the speculations of segments that do not produce politics."

"TÜSİAD'S POLITICAL RECORD IS NOT CLEAN"

Touching upon some of TÜSİAD's statements, Ala said, "TÜSİAD has an important place in the business world, but its political record is not clean. The centers of tutelage in Turkey have been eliminated. The era of TÜSİAD making non-political interventions is behind us."

"EARLY ELECTIONS ARE NOT ON OUR AGENDA"

Speaking about the opposition's expectation of early elections, Ala said, "There is no such thing on our agenda. Does the opposition have the majority to go to early elections? There is no such possibility either."
