Ekrem İmamoğlu announces: Union of Municipalities is heading to Syria

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements following the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye Council Meeting.

İmamoğlu evaluated the controversy surrounding the SGK debts of municipalities and the latest developments in Syria.

Highlights from İmamoğlu's statements are as follows:

As of today, the AK Party has fallen into the position of the opposition. Respecting this is a fundamental rule of democracy. The inability to digest the opposition casts a shadow over democracy. This situation is troubling to us.

You have to digest democracy. Practices such as the appointment of trustees and the handling of SGK debts are not appropriate in principle.

Among the SGK revenues, the SGK debts of all municipalities are around 2.7 percent. They need to stop talking about this.

In the previous term of the IMM, 1.1 billion was deducted. Another CHP-run district municipality was quickly hit with an attachment order.

Some municipalities have paid their debts by selling land that was granted to them.

We want all of these processes to be carried out in a way that is free from partisanship.

A VISIT TO SYRIA WILL TAKE PLACE

In Syria, for now, the guns have fallen silent. The Syrian civil war affects us with different impacts, beyond the large number of refugees.

The Union of Municipalities will carry out a visit to Syria.
