Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements regarding the arrest of former AKUT President Nasuh Mahruki. Sharing a post on his social media account, İmamoğlu stated that the decision creates distrust in society.

"The justice mechanism has been sounding alarms for a long time, creating distrust in society. The arrest decision for Nasuh Mahruki is the latest example of this," said İmamoğlu, drawing attention to the insufficiency of the grounds for the arrest.

'THIS DECISION IS CALLED DISPROPORTIONALITY'

Reminding that Nasuh Mahruki was arrested on the grounds of "publicly disseminating misleading information," İmamoğlu stated that the decision in question does not comply with the Criminal Procedure Code.

"If this were a crime, it would be hard to find people to write in pro-government newspapers or speak on their TV channels. The name of this arrest, to put it mildly, is disproportionality," said İmamoğlu, continuing his criticisms of the justice system.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Former AKUT Search and Rescue Association President Nasuh Mahruki was arrested as part of an investigation launched on the grounds that he "publicly disseminated misleading information" in posts he made on his social media account.

Mahruki came to the Istanbul Courthouse with his lawyers and relatives to give a statement in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Press Crimes Investigation Bureau regarding his posts made on November 12.

Stating that he would make a statement to the press later, Mahruki gave his testimony at the prosecutor's office.

Following this, Mahruki was referred to the judgeship with a request for his arrest on the charge of "publicly disseminating misleading information."

The duty magistrate decided to arrest Mahruki.
