Ekrem İmamoğlu reacts to the arrest of Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Bozbey

Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu made striking statements on his social media account following the arrest of Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey. İmamoğlu described the ongoing process as a "coup against the national will" and claimed that mayors are being taken hostage through legal interventions.

“LET ME TELL YOU THE REST OF THE MOVIE”

In his message regarding the arrest of Bursa Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, İmamoğlu stated that the template of the process is similar, saying, "Let me tell you the rest of the movie: You will take the place you could not win through elections by using legal intervention and seize the municipality." Evaluating Bozbey's arrest as a coup against the national will, İmamoğlu argued that this attitude is "theft of the national will."

CRITICISM OF EXTRA-LEGAL OPERATIONS

İmamoğlu stated that the template for legal intervention is always the same and defined it as "extra-legal operations against elected mayors." Using harsh language, he asked, "Do you think the nation will be convinced when you write the names of those you want to take hostage on a board and draw arrows between them?" and added, "86 million people have now memorized these 'systematic' tactics."

İmamoğlu also alleged that the legal process regarding the arrests was leaked to journalists despite confidentiality orders and that misinformation was being spread. He reacted to this situation by saying, "You are publicly spreading misinformation by leaking it to those journalists you love so much," and added, "The nation sees these things."

Finally, İmamoğlu stated that this process has turned into a business of drawing diagrams, saying, "We also know who you learned these diagram-drawing jobs from. Our nation will draw the best diagram when the ballot box arrives. We are waiting patiently," pointing to the answer that elections will provide.
