Ekrem İmamoğlu sends a message from Silivri: 'They were defeated in the past, they will be defeated again'

Representatives from 89 parties across 81 countries gathered at the Socialist International meeting hosted by the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Istanbul.

The message sent by Ekrem İmamoğlu from Silivri was read at the event, which was attended by Spanish Prime Minister and Socialist International President Pedro Sanchez and CHP Chairman Özgür Özel.

İMAMOĞLU'S MESSAGE: THE STRUGGLE FOR DEMOCRACY AND JUSTICE

İmamoğlu's message was conveyed to the participants by CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke. In his message, İmamoğlu stated that Istanbul has been the center of the struggle for independence and freedom throughout history, adding, "Istanbul is a city where the heart of great change beats. Today, this struggle continues with the courage of the youth and the conscience of the people."

İmamoğlu stated that his political detention stems from his meeting with millions of people over the demands for democracy and justice.

Emphasizing that autocracies are not invincible, İmamoğlu said, "They were defeated in the past, they will be defeated again. The Socialist International knows this very well." He also drew attention to the situation in Palestine, stating that authoritarian regimes threaten global peace.

Stating that Istanbul is one of the fronts in the struggle between democracy and authoritarianism, İmamoğlu expressed that the CHP not only stands against oppression but also offers a concrete vision for the future. In his message, Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "We are working for the reconstruction of the parliamentary system and the achievement of gender equality."
