Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements at the first meeting of the new term of the IMM assembly.
LOCAL ELECTION MESSAGE
Here are the highlights from İmamoğlu's statements:
"In the March 31, 2024 elections, our people exercised their democratic rights and entrusted us with the duty and responsibility to govern Istanbul for another 5 years. The fact that the effort and service we have shown over the past 5 years have been met with appreciation and favor by our people has, of course, pleased us immensely. Naturally, it has also increased our responsibility. With the sense of responsibility brought by this appreciation, the period of progress and investment will continue to grow even further in our second term. Our management approach, which has ended waste and brought populism, has become an example for many cities in Turkey. Our 'suspended invoice' (askıda fatura) practice, which represents our spirit of solidarity, has happily been taken as an example dozens of times by cities around the world. I am proud to enter a new term more strongly, in which we will continue on our path with this approach that considers both development and solidarity.
As in every election, our nation gave very important and valuable messages in the March 31 elections. Each of us is obliged to understand those messages well and do what is necessary. Let no one doubt that in this term, we will all together provide our fellow citizens with a truly democratic assembly experience that acts with common sense, consultation, and a culture of compromise under all conditions, and prioritizes the interests of Istanbulites at the highest level."
