Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has filed a criminal complaint against 14 people on charges of 'publicly disseminating misleading information' and 'insult'.

As is known, İmamoğlu, who is being tried in five separate cases with demands for up to 25 years in prison and a political ban, had most recently faced a 'fake diploma' investigation.

In particular, social media accounts and journalists known for their proximity to the AKP had shared claims that the cancellation of his university diploma was being sought.

MURAT ONGUN HAD DENIED THE CLAIMS

İmamoğlu's advisor Murat Ongun had announced that this was not true, stating that the prosecutor's office had only requested documents from the university regarding the matter, and added:

"We announce that we will exercise our legal rights due to articles aimed at publicly misleading the public and activities aimed at interfering with the judiciary."

Ongun announced today on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account that they have filed a criminal complaint against 14 people.
