Following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, his father Hasan İmamoğlu made statements to Saygı Öztürk from Sözcü regarding the seizure of their family businesses. İmamoğlu emphasized their transparency in trade, saying, "Our family business belongs entirely to me and my son. There is nothing we cannot account for."
Furthermore, criticizing Turkey's political history and current situation, he said, "I have no fear of anyone but God."
Hasan İmamoğlu stated the following:
"This country was not won easily. My grandfather and his two brothers were martyred for this country. So I ask: Why did they become martyrs? Now we have stood up, look at this. What is being done to change the regime. I experienced the 1960 coup while in primary school. I experienced the 1980 coup. There were many coup attempts as well. I have never seen anything like this. When I was a primary school student during the 1960 coup, they made us shout and sing songs like 'Can it be, can it be, does brother strike brother?'. I still condemn it. Now, whether it is good intention or bad intention, I don't know, they say 'I said it, so it is done,' take Ahmet, take Mehmet. Why?
I have no fear of anyone but God, we have no fear. Thank God, we came from the fields. We sow, we reap, we eat. There is no problem at all. These days will pass, God willing."
