Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements at the July 15 Martyrs' Commemoration program.

In his speech, İmamoğlu recounted the events of the July 15 coup attempt and emphasized that 'sufficient lessons have not been learned from July 15'.

In his speech, İmamoğlu said, "I believe that those who paved the way for the coup plotters have not been held sufficiently accountable."

Stating that July 15 was one of Turkey's darkest days, Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "Perhaps one of the bloodiest points of this dark and painful day took place right in front of our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality institution."

THEY TRIED TO SEIZE OUR PARLIAMENT

IMM Mayor İmamoğlu, recounting what happened at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey during the coup attempt, said, "They attempted to seize our parliament, which says sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation. To this end, they targeted our institutions, our values, and our citizens."

Stating that sufficient lessons have not been learned from July 15, Ekrem İmamoğlu said, "I believe that the people who implemented the policies that paved the way for the coup plotters have not engaged in the necessary self-criticism and have not accounted to our nation."

''SOVEREIGNTY BELONGS UNCONDITIONALLY TO THE NATION''

İmamoğlu concluded his speech by emphasizing democracy and the national will: "Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation. The religion of the state is justice. No power is above the national will, and it cannot be."

IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu also noted the following:

"We must express that with the state being governed based on merit, this country and this nation can never be under the pressure of a single group. The saying of Ali ibn Abi Talib entrusted to us, that the religion of the state is justice, is perhaps one of the most important pieces of advice as long as world history exists.

Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation. The religion of the state is justice. No power is above the national will, and it cannot be."

"WE ARE SEEING THE SAME SIGNS"

Recalling the period of the coup attempt, İmamoğlu issued a striking warning.

İmamoğlu said the following:

"Today, we are seeing the intentions or signs of the same mistakes being repeated in different dimensions. The mindset that easily declares those who warn and criticize the government as enemies and terrorists is, unfortunately, causing us trouble.

If we want July 15s not to happen again in this country, we are obliged to become a country of institutions and rules as a nation and as a country, and to ensure democracy completely as soon as possible. We must ensure judicial independence and the rule of law as soon as possible."
