MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, following his remarks at his party's group meeting, had rejected the appointment request from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, stating, "I do not find it appropriate to meet with Ekrem İmamoğlu because I do not approve of his politics. They may want to involve the MHP in this exploitation, which is why I am acting cautiously."
'IT NEITHER STICKS TO US NOR TOUCHES US'
İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu responded to Bahçeli with the following words:
"Frankly, let alone the word exploitation, we would not even let it cross our minds or our inner circle. We are in a position where we have dedicated our lives not only to politics but also to our character, with trust, morality, and virtue. Therefore, we know courtesy well. We also know well how to enter and leave a place where we have requested an appointment. This is something that exists in our family, in our personal lives, and in the CHP culture. No one should ever worry about this, and they cannot. In that respect, it is his personal opinion; it neither sticks to us nor touches us."
