Emine Erdoğan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has written a letter to Melania Trump, wife of US President Donald Trump, to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In her letter, she requested that Melania Trump show the same sensitivity for Gaza that she has shown for children who are victims of the war in Ukraine.
Recalling their meetings at the White House in Washington, Erdoğan stated that Melania Trump's sincere conversation and gracious hospitality remain in her memory.
THE DIMENSIONS OF THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN GAZA
Emine Erdoğan emphasized that what is happening in Gaza is an atrocity unprecedented in history. Stating that according to data from the UN Children's Fund, a child loses their life in Gaza every 45 minutes, Erdoğan expressed that this situation has turned into a hell for children. Noting that the concept of the "unknown soldier" has now begun to be used for children as well, Erdoğan said that children in Gaza whose identities cannot be determined are referred to as "unknown babies," and that this situation leaves deep wounds on the conscience.
A CALL TO MELANIA TRUMP
Emine Erdoğan stated that she appreciates the sensitivity Melania Trump has shown toward children in Ukraine and requested that she show the same sensitivity for Gaza. Erdoğan requested that Melania Trump send a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to stop the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She emphasized that this call would be the fulfillment of a historic responsibility for the Palestinian people.
Emine Erdoğan stated that international law and humanitarian values must be defended, and called for joining their voices against this distorted order.
