Erbakan proposes referendum for PKK amnesty

Yeniden Refah Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan made significant remarks regarding the current agenda ahead of the 'Provincial Presidents' meeting to be held at the National Youth Association.

Following the meeting between the DEM Party delegation and MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, Erbakan voiced his proposal for a referendum concerning the Imrali process.

The delegation from the DEM Party, which included Pervin Buldan, Mithat Sancar, and Faik Özgür Erol, held a meeting with MHP leader Bahçeli that lasted approximately half an hour.

Following this meeting, Pervin Buldan stated that the process had moved to its second phase and that legal regulations were needed. Bahçeli expressed full support for these statements, saying, "I sign my name under every sentence."

In his statement regarding these developments, Erbakan emphasized that the process should encompass not only the PKK but also the disarmament of the PYD and YPG. Furthermore, he stated that steps that would upset the families of martyrs and veterans should not be taken. Asserting that it is inappropriate for Öcalan to benefit from the right to hope, Erbakan expressed that any legal regulations to be made should be put to a referendum.

Erbakan said, "If our nation approves of the amnesty for PKK leaders or PKK members who have not been involved in crimes, we believe this amnesty should be granted. If it is not approved, they should not be pardoned. If we want to carry out this process together with our nation, a referendum would be an extremely appropriate step."
