Erbakan's ultimatum on İmralı: 'We will withdraw from the commission'

A new claim that has come to the fore within the framework of the government's 'Terror-Free Turkey' steps has caused a major stir. It was alleged that a 5-member delegation to be selected from a commission to be established in Parliament would meet with the imprisoned leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan. This claim has brought about heated debates in politics.

SHARP REACTION FROM ERBAKAN

New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan spoke very clearly about the allegations during a press conference held before the Provincial Chairmen's Meeting. Erbakan sent a message to the government, stating, 'We do not approve in any way of deputies elected by the will of the nation going to İmralı.'

'THE STATE IS ALREADY IN CONTACT'

Stating that the state already has the necessary channels for communicating with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, Erbakan used the following expressions:

'If there is anyone to meet with İmralı, it is the MIT (National Intelligence Organization). The state is already in contact, the MIT is already in contact. DEM Party deputies are also already meeting with them. If they have anything to say, they can convey it through these channels. Sending the nation's deputies to the door of İmralı is unacceptable.'

'WE WILL WITHDRAW IF A DELEGATION IS SENT'

The New Welfare Party leader also clearly expressed that they would take a firm stance in the event of a possible visit to İmralı. Erbakan issued an ultimatum with the words, 'If such an initiative takes place, we will put the situation of withdrawing from the commission on our agenda.'
