Erdoğan evaluates the İmralı visit: 'A risk'
A delegation consisting of one member each from the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party visited İmralı on November 24, 2025, and held a three-hour meeting with PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan. President Erdoğan emphasized that the process regarding the meeting is being conducted with meticulous care.

While the details of the meeting held by the İmralı delegation with terrorist Abdullah Öcalan, who is convicted of treason, are awaited with curiosity in Turkey, the first evaluation has come from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The delegation, with the participation of one member each from the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party, went to İmralı island on November 24, 2025, and held a meeting with Öcalan that lasted approximately three hours.
TOPICS ADDRESSED IN THE MEETING
In a statement made by the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, it was noted that detailed statements were taken during the meeting with Öcalan, and it was stated that positive results were obtained in terms of social integration, strengthening brotherhood, and advancing the process toward a regional perspective.
It was recorded that during the meeting, questions were asked within the framework of the PKK dissolving itself and laying down arms following Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" on February 27, and the implementation of the March 10 agreement in Syria. The minutes are expected to be shared with the public by the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission.
ERDOĞAN'S EMPHASIS ON RISK
Following criticisms that he was not taking ownership of the process, President Erdoğan made statements regarding the meeting at the AKP Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting. Stating that the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, Erdoğan expressed that the messages coming from İmralı were heard firsthand.
President Erdoğan said the following at the meeting:
“Mr. Hüseyin (Yayman) went to İmralı. The meeting took place in a positive atmosphere. This chapter has thus been completed. The messages from İmralı have been heard firsthand. This visit will carry the Terror-Free Turkey process one step further. We are planning the steps we will take after this with great meticulousness. We will continue the process with determination. We are taking a risk; we are putting our hands under the stone. Be sensitive when expressing opinions regarding the process.”
