AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is departing for Qatar to attend the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, which is being held following Israel's attack on the Hamas negotiation delegation in Qatar on September 9. The summit will address the steps to be taken against Israel's aggressive stance.
Following the Israeli attacks, Erdoğan spoke with Emir of Qatar Al Thani and exchanged views on acting jointly against the attacks. The summit is being held for the third time since Israel's October 7, 2023, attack on Gaza and is being conducted with Turkey's support.
During President Erdoğan's visit to Qatar, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz will temporarily assume the duties of the presidency. This appointment was formalized through a memorandum published in the Official Gazette. Until Erdoğan's return, Yılmaz will serve as acting president in accordance with Article 106 of the Constitution.
