In the election for the presidency of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB), CHP candidate Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu competed against AKP candidate Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç.
In the election held on June 5, İmamoğlu was elected TBB President with 515 votes, while the AKP candidate Genç received 250 votes.
In the elections, two members from the DEM Party and one each from the YRP and IYI Party were included in İmamoğlu's list as council members.
While the CHP had 448 delegates in the TBB, it emerged that some AKP mayors also voted for İmamoğlu.
ERDOĞAN'S INSTRUCTION TO HIS PARTY: IDENTIFY THEM
According to a report by Politikyol; AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with his party's head of local governments, Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz, following the emergence of the situation and reacted sternly.
Erdoğan requested that the mayors in question be identified, their defenses taken, and the reasons for their stance learned. It was learned that Yılmaz informed Erdoğan that he would identify the names in a short time and report them to him, and that he had begun work to this end.
IF NAMES CANNOT BE IDENTIFIED, HE WILL DEMAND HIS RESIGNATION
The report stated that if the names cannot be identified, Erdoğan has demanded the resignation of AKP Head of Local Governments Yusuf Ziya Yılmaz.
TBB ELECTIONS BY DELEGATE NUMBERS
While the CHP had 448 delegates in the TBB elections, the total number of TBB delegates, including elected delegates, reached 868. The DEM Party has 64 delegates, the YRP has 15, and the MHP has 56. The AKP has 277 delegates.
Since the MHP did not participate in the elections and there were members from the YRP and DEM Party who did not participate in the voting, it is stated that the fact that İmamoğlu received more votes than the CHP's delegate count at the ballot boxes was due to AKP members voting for İmamoğlu.
There is a 67-vote difference between İmamoğlu's vote count and the CHP delegates. The difference between the AKP's delegates and Genç's vote count is 27.
