The candidate selection process for the parties continues ahead of the local elections to be held on March 31, 2024.

While alliance debates continue on the opposition front, the AKP aims to win back the metropolitan municipalities it lost in 2019, primarily Istanbul.

According to a report by Nuray Babacan from Gazete Pencere, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who had not been seen for a while and was said to have been resting for a week, has begun to resume his schedule. In the latest meeting, Erdoğan worked on the AKP's draft local election calendar.

"IF YOU NOMINATE THE WRONG CANDIDATE, I WILL HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE"

It was learned that during the sharing of this information, Erdoğan issued the warning, "If you propose the wrong candidate, I will hold you accountable. I am being very clear."

ANKARA AND ISTANBUL DECISION TO BE LEFT TO ERDOĞAN

According to the established schedule, candidacy applications will be received in the first week of November. A commission to evaluate the prospective candidates will be formed toward the end of November. The results from this will be presented to the high commission chaired by Erdoğan. The names will be determined by mid-December.

The candidate evaluation for Ankara and Istanbul will be left to Erdoğan.
