Erdoğan meets with Hamas leader

AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan made a statement on his social media account regarding the content of the meeting. Erdoğan shared the following information on his account:

Before our cabinet meeting, we held a phone call with Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh.

In our meeting with Mr. Haniyeh, we discussed the efforts being made to end the conflicts and violence in Gaza.

We evaluated Hamas's approval of the ceasefire proposal received from mediators.

In the meeting, where I expressed that we find the decision taken by Hamas following Turkey's suggestions to be positive, we emphasized that Israel must also take steps toward a permanent ceasefire.

I call on all parties, especially Western countries, to exert the necessary pressure on Israel for a ceasefire.
