Erdoğan sends 'Five Gang' and 'new Constitution' message in 'May 27' speech

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the “Turkey Century Constitution, Civil Constitution, Strong Turkey Symposium” held at the Adnan Menderes Congress Center on Democracy and Liberties Island.

"NO DECISION MADE IS A COINCIDENCE"

Here are the highlights from Erdoğan's remarks:

"The May 27 coup is the result of a provocation implemented step by step.

Our nation will always remember the late Menderes and our two ministers with gratitude and a bit of embarrassment for not being able to prevent their execution. No matter what anyone says, our three statesmen, who were subjected to all kinds of pressure and torture in the Yassıada courts, have written their names into the hearts of our nation as martyrs. This nation will always remember the late Menderes and his colleagues with gratitude and a bit of embarrassment for not being able to prevent their execution. Even if centuries, not just 64 years, pass, we will not forget or forgive the coup plotters.

No scene experienced in the Yassıada courts and no decision made is a coincidence.

"THE RACE FOR ROLES AMONG THE 'FIVE GANGS'..."

At Yassıada, May 14 was also put on trial; our democracy and the revolution of the nation were put on trial. It was intended to be written in blood in the memory of the nation who is powerful in this country and who holds the power of government. In the person of Menderes and his colleagues, it was the free will of the nation itself that was first convicted and then executed.

The dark shadow of May 27 has not left the national will alone, with coups repeated every 10 years. From newspapers published like junta bulletins to the race for roles among the 'five gangs,' the same scenario has been put back into circulation several times.

Those who could not stomach the Anatolian revolution continued their attempts to usurp the national will for 22 years. With the December 17-25 attempt, they tried to topple the elected government. They targeted the peace of our cities with trench terrorism. Finally, with the July 15 coup attempt, they became so blinded that they targeted our own person, the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey), and our dear nation itself. All of these happened. Apart from these, there were many other secret and open attempts. They unleashed every tutelage apparatus they had at their disposal upon us. We never took a step back. We showed all those who aspire to tutelage very clearly that the national will cannot be taken over with tanks and rifles. We have demonstrated that the crime of a coup will not go unpunished in this country."

The era of coups has closed in this country.

NEW CONSTITUTION STATEMENT

I believe that making a new constitution is of national importance.

We aim to carry all these gains even further with a new constitution. We have shared with the public on various occasions why our country needs a new constitution. The constitution is at the top of the hierarchy of norms. The straitjacket that the 1961 Constitution forcibly put on the nation and the national will was tightened even further in 1982. Turkey being condemned to the current coup constitution damages trust in politics.

Netanyahu is trying to extend his political life by shedding more blood. Just like Hitler, whom he admires, he will not be able to escape being remembered with curses. As Turkey, we will do our best to ensure these barbarians are held to account."
