The fire tragedy in Kartalkaya, which claimed the lives of 78 people, was discussed extensively at the AKP Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) meeting. President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the investigation into the incident is being conducted meticulously, adding, "This matter will not be used as political fodder; whoever is responsible will be held accountable."
INSPECTION PROCESSES DISCUSSED
During the meeting, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç gave a comprehensive presentation on the licensing procedures and legal status of the Grand Kartal Hotel, where the fire occurred. Minister of Culture and Tourism Nuri Ersoy provided information regarding the inspection processes carried out in tourism facilities. Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan reported that the fire is being examined in terms of occupational safety and that evaluations are being made within the framework of relevant legislation.
Erdoğan stated that the inspection mechanism needs to be strengthened, saying, "Such incidents should not happen under our administration. While the families of the deceased are in pain, we also do not accept the cynical and unscrupulous rhetoric used over this tragedy."
PROPOSAL FOR PRIVATE SECTOR INSPECTIONS
At the meeting, some MKYK members proposed that inspections of hotels and tourism facilities be transferred to the private sector. It was argued that the involvement of sworn building inspection firms would increase the quality of inspections and allow for the establishment of a more independent system.
