Erkan Baş: We challenge those who say the opposition has no chance here

Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Chairman Erkan Baş attended his party's İzmir mayoral candidates introduction meeting.

TİP Chairman and Gebze mayoral candidate Baş pointed out in his speech that Turkey has been experiencing an unenthusiastic election process following the May 14 elections.

"OUR MAIN CONCERN IS FOR WORKERS, LABORERS, AND WOMEN TO BE ORGANIZED IN EVERY AREA OF LIFE"

Baş said, "I have never seen such an unenthusiastic election in my life. I have never seen an election where people were so uninterested. There is only one exception: where the Workers' Party of Turkey participates, excitement, enthusiasm, and determination come to the election. We started politics by saying that lying to the public is a crime. I must say that this lack of enthusiasm is directly related to the May 14 general elections. Millions of people fought with the hope of change. And we believed that change would happen, but the resulting picture broke our hopes, angered us, and infuriated us. We were all offended by the outcome. However, crying over the past is of no use, but we must learn lessons from the past. As TİP, we said that you cannot defeat a government that has usurped state resources, received the full support of sects and communities, and has the support of capital, only in elections. Our main concern is for workers, laborers, and women to be organized in every area of life... When we combine our minds, hearts, and strength, it is possible to defeat this government," he stated.

"THE AKP IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SITUATION TURKEY IS IN"

Stating that as the Workers' Party of Turkey, they have built their election strategy on the defeat of the AKP-MHP alliance, Chairman Baş said:

"As TİP, we are ambitious; we have decided to stand against the government everywhere it is thought that the AKP-MHP will win and that the opposition does not need to bother. We challenge those who say the opposition has no chance here. We will go and explain that the Justice and Development Party and the People's Alliance are the biggest culprits for the situation Turkey is in. Every election has a strategy and a goal. The Justice and Development Party is responsible for the situation Turkey is in. At the same time, this government has caused great harm to this country.

One of these is that it has made the opposition resemble itself. The government will change, but the opposition must also change; change is also essential for the opposition. We have acted with an extremely responsible approach in all districts of Turkey. Wherever there is a possibility of the AKP-MHP alliance being defeated, we have fielded a candidate there. If it is possible for any place to pass from the government to the opposition, if even a single district or town is to pass from the government to the opposition and we cannot win there, we have done what was required of us."
