Ahmet Özer, who received the most votes in the March 31 local elections, was elected as the Mayor of Esenyurt.

This situation has brought a new debate to Esenyurt.

After receiving his certificate of election and taking office, Özer directed his criticism at the former administration in a post on social media.

Özer stated, “Following the former mayor, rapid and unnecessary hiring has been initiated in a manner contrary to our understanding of populist municipalism. It should be known that this initiative is far from well-intentioned and is harming our municipality, which we took over with an empty treasury, and our Esenyurt.”

"UNETHICAL AND INAPPROPRIATE HIRING..."

Ahmet Özer included the following statements in his social media post:

“After our momentum of success in the election process was observed, rapid and unnecessary hiring was initiated by the former mayor in a manner contrary to our understanding of populist municipalism. So much so that this unethical and inappropriate hiring continued even after the election results were announced on March 31. Dear people of Esenyurt; we stand behind our promise made before the election that 'we will not play with anyone's bread.' However, this deliberate situation is certainly not within that scope.”

Özer continued as follows:

“It should be known that this initiative is far from well-intentioned and is harming our municipality, which we took over with an empty treasury, and our Esenyurt. These new hires, made with a deliberate mindset, are a step taken to put the new administration in a difficult position. Therefore, the employment contracts of those hired with an approach that does not comply with procedure and substance have had to be terminated in accordance with the law. However, we would like to state that if there is a need, new hires will be made by our mayoralty.”

"I THANK HIM FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS"

Ahmet Özer had stated the following in a post on social media after the handover ceremony:

“I thank the previous Mayor, Mr. Kemal Deniz Bozkurt, for his contributions to Esenyurt to date. We were together at our handover ceremony with our Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Mr. Özgür Karabat and our District Chairman Mr. Hüseyin Ergin. Now, we will experience moments filled with hope together. We are ready to work for a more livable, more beautiful city. We have set out to sign beautiful projects that will prepare our Esenyurt for the future. With the new term, we will all work very hard together for a fairer, more participatory, more accessible, and more equal Esenyurt, my dear neighbors! Hoping to meet in many beautiful days.”
