Esila Ayık to appear in court tomorrow

The first hearing for 18-year-old Esila Ayık, who was arrested on charges of insulting the President, will be held on May 15. Prosecutors are seeking up to 4 years and 8 months in prison for Ayık.

In the indictment prepared by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Press Crimes Investigation Bureau regarding Esila Ayık, who was arrested on April 8 at the Kadıköy Solidarity Stage for carrying a sign reading "Dictator Erdoğan," a prison sentence of 1 year and 2 months to 4 years and 8 months was requested for the charge of 'publicly insulting the President' for Ayık, who suffers from chronic heart and kidney disease.

Ayık's first hearing will be held tomorrow (May 15) at 09:00 at the Kartal Anadolu 77th Criminal Court of First Instance. Ayık's friends stated, "We invite everyone to show their support. Esila will be among us tomorrow. Stand with us."

The Parent Solidarity Network issued the following statement in their call for the hearing:

"We stand with our children for the hearing to be held at 09:00 at the Anadolu (Kartal) 77th Criminal Court of First Instance, both for Esila and for all our children who remain in detention. Let all our children who exercise their constitutional and democratic rights be released."
